The term 'you' or any variation of the term is not meant for any person in particular. However, all Facebook philosophers/ministers should pay attention.
Of course you're going to go into 2012 fresh and new. Most definitely you are cutting off all old things (and people) and living the life that you always should have. Certainly this is going to be a prosperous year with your new businesses and houses and cars and boyfriends/husbands and girlfriends/wives. It's all so clear because you express it just like you did this time around last year...when everything was pretty much the same and for some odd reason stayed that way. But forget all that; this year is different because you proclaimed it and you can feel it. At least you can while we're still in January, I'll check back with you in April.
Forgive my sarcasm, but this time of year is usually the most humorous to me because of how capitalistic America views it and how the African-American Christian community operates because of it. It's interesting to me how both the celebrations of Christmas and New Year's Day scream pagan blended Roman Catholicism like an unfed infant; but like an unfit mother there is little to no appropriate response. And with regards to New Years, I can't knock you. If your faith is strengthened by associating progressive change in Jesus' Name with a specific date on the calendar than more power to you. I'll roll with viewing everyday as a day with great opportunity to move forward; as stated in Lamentations 3:22-23. But, no one reads Lamentations anyway, so I feel you.
Still, one good thing about New Years (Eve) is that most preachers come with that heat and the worship is off the meat rack. And I'm almost certain you experienced great worship and sat under a most powerful word from the Lord at whatever church you went to on NYE (because you definitely didn't hit the club). All of that is very good because it can [alledgedly] provide the jump start that you need. However, if you attend a church with powerful word and worship, then you probably got that jump in...say...July; and you were more than likely supposed to receive that change then.
During the times when the Israelites celebrated the feasts that commemorated their freedom, there were of course regulations they had to follow to instill proper worship. Studying this, I walked to Ezekiel 46:9 which stated:
"But when the people of the land come before the Lord on the appointed feast days, whoever enters by way of the north gate to worship shall go out by way of the south gate; and whoever enters by way of the south gate shall go out by way of the north gate. He shall not return by way of the gate through which he came, but shall go out through the opposite gate."
Here, we can see the intent of God is for His people to begin to condition their minds and actions to change after EVERY worship service; which includes the New Year's one as well as the May 15 one. But again, if NYE helps you believe with more authenticity, then by all means do what you must. Just understand that you don't have to wait or celebrate the arrival of a New Year to declare "He made all things new (Revelation 21:5)"; you can do that each and every day you wake up.
Peace
