The Whole Whopper

Convenience has reared it's ugly head again so I will keep this one short as possible (be quiet mom).

Many of you may have gotten an email (or a version of it) titled 'Calling All Prayer Warriors'.  In a nutshell, its theme is suggesting that President Obama is getting verbally pummeled by Republican and Tea Party members and fans on an unprecedented basis because he is African-American.  The email encourages all Christians to lift the President up in prayer to ask God to strengthen him in this matter, so that brother Barak may prevail through this, and that ultimately God's Will may be done.  It lastly charges us to go into a period of fasting and prayer for the President in this extremely difficult period of his life.  I fully agree that now is a good time to collectively intercede for the United States leader.  Frankly, I don't remember when there wasn't a time to do this.  But still, something is being left out.

The article appropriately cites James 5:16, which tells us the prayers of the righteous availeth (help out) much (that righteous piece is another discussion that I'll get on some other time).  But it leaves out Luke 6:27-28, which commands us to love our enemies and do good to those who hate us.

If we keep it trill, most of us would agree, to a point, with Kayne West's tirade after Hurricane Katrina; where he expressed how he felt G.W. Bush hated black people.  Some might even be so bold to say that they hate W.  Nevertheless, I find it interesting that the prayer warriors are called in for upholding a widely revered champion of our race; when the Bible (more specifically Jesus) tells us we should actually be lifting the Elephants and the Tea Partiers in prayer.  But a prayer for the evil Republicans just doesn't match my Obama with MLK t-shirt now does it.

Moving forward, we missed it with Bush.  I strongly believe that if African-American Christians had have collectively stood in prayer for the Bush Administration throughout his tenure as president that many of the issues the Obama Administration is now facing would not exist.  I believe this because the Bible is the Living Word of God and all of its recommendations, advice, and directives are true.  Therefore, I challenge you that while you indeed hold Obama up in prayer, to also pray for the Republicans, the Democrats, and the Tea Partiers who vehemently oppose Barak Obama as a person; and that all politicians can get in agreement with the needs of this country in Jesus' name.  In addition, in the situation where President Obama is not reelected, I suggest that the prayer warriors bring the next administration before the Lord consistently and earnestly.

The whole Bible ladies and gentlemen; not just the parts that match our agenda.

Peace
