Chippin' Away

Sad to say, none of us can recall a time when the United States was a Christian nation, because it never was such a thing.  Please don't get 'escaping from religious persecution' confused with following Christ.  As a matter of fact, many of us, including Christians, have pushed for it to not be one.  Instead, we have endorsed the many freedoms that the U.S. has afforded to its gullible citizens and relished in the toxic runoff these liberties have produced.  Because America was founded by  rebels posing as business men, and furthered through the terrorism of the colonial rebellion towards Great Britain (commonly referred to as American revolutionists); we can never assume that 'One Nation Under God', the phrase that graces every American dollar bill, was a reference to Jehovah (or the many names that the true and living God is called by humans).  It could be more accurate to state that our founding fathers were referring to the dollar bill itself; or maybe even themselves.  But what is certain is that those men and women who chose to to secede from the Union of Great Britain did not sincerely have God in mind when they carved out this One Nation.  And what is also dead on is this current government propels similar attitudes.

So.....there is a law up for debate in California that, if passed, would ban circumcision (the procedure that removes the foreskin from the penis; typically done shortly after the birth of male humans).  The claim is that this minor surgical procedure is unnecessary of the development of the male reproductive organ; and therefore should not be mandatory but should be outlawed.  Adding to this is the notion that a parent has no right to force a surgery on an unaware child.  No big deal, right?  Well, let's ponder this.

On the practical, physical surface; we know that centuries of research have supported that circumcision has many health benefits-specifically addressing the reduction of bacteria in that region of the male body.  Now, without sufficient research to support this, I'm sure that the biologists have discovered some [currently] safe ways to deal with this.  And if they haven't, then you know they have the killer legal team to defend their evidence or fabrication of it.  Also, and again I'm not sure, but there probably are some men out there who will be severely damaged from this operation and haven't gotten it done.  I get that.

But on the spiritual side this is a little more interesting.  Many of you know that God gave a command to Abram (later Abraham) in Genesis to get him and the male members of his family circumcised (Genesis 17:1-27).  As a matter of fact, this command was actually a covenant from God's prospective between Him and the nations that Abraham would soon be the father of.  With this, circumcision was the also a symbol that Abraham's descendants were not to be like the rest of the people of the world, but in essence, were to be holy.  Of course, people started thinking that cutting their foreskin was what made them godly, while still committing various heinous acts that sealed their hellish fate.  But this was because they got away from the true meaning of the procedure.  Graciously, Jesus straightened all that out.

Nearly 50 years ago, this same 'we don't need this because not everybody believes in it' debate came up about prayer in schools.  An individual got a group of individuals to agree that corporate prayer in our public educational system wasn't necessary--and the graduation and violence rates in schools today tell the rest of the story.  Here again, some individuals are attempting to remove a previous attempt to unify man with God, by God, from existence.  We know that circumcision doesn't save a soul, but the acknowledgment of the true and living God is the solid start to doing this.  My position is that we as Christians should at the least bring these things to light in a respectable and dignified manner.  If we, or any group of people in America, stand by the 'In God We Trust' and are really talking about God; then something like this should be seriously combed through before action.  I'm not saying banning circumcision is evil and a death trap for the U.S. (because I think we're past that point), but I am saying that the lack of reverence for what God said in the entire Bible is a tragic mistake.

Yeah I know, with Jesus who needs circumcision?  Well, don't be surprised when your federal government tells you that you don't need Him either.  And then what?

Peace
