The Joy of the Janitor

At around 5:30 a.m., Randy arrives at the municipal building to begin a normal day that won't end until around 7 p.m.  And that's just at work; for waiting at his three-bedroom apartment is his pregnant wife and 4 year-old daughter.  So after cleaning the offices of the city's most well-paid schmoozers and embezzle artists, he takes a stop at the corner store to pick up his wifes' latest requests.  When he gets home, his daughter (who should've been in bed an hour ago) greets him with a flying hug and petitions for more minutes past bedtime.  Randy caves in and plays a game she's named Castle; where they are building and knocking down her pillow structures.  In between the several rounds, Randy takes trips to the kitchen for his wife, and one out to the garbage can.  After his daughter and wife are asleep, he lugs himself back to the family room to chip away at a business plan that his cousin desperately needs help with.  Randy is taking part in the ultimate joy.
Similar to how Muslims are strongly encouraged to take a trip to Mecca, I think it may beneficial for American Christians to visit a foreign country where Christianity is more of a life risk.  This may help dispel the overwhelming self-serving imagery that Christianity is helping to propel in this country.  As if capitalism isn't enough to fuel greed, many are being church-educated towards a principle that is being twisted and is totally adverse to a key component in a life with Jesus....servitude.

'Cause yeah, we wanna be that 'fearlessly and wonderfully made' individual who is about to do exceedingly great things.  Yet we cannot ignore the foundational pieces that are outlined for us to achieve this greatness.  Namely, Matthew 23:11-12; where Jesus tells us that the CEO is really the janitor.  You know, the one who sweeps up behind everyone.  The gentleman who takes out the smelly trash when others don't want to get their suit dirty.  The lady that makes sure that she's accessible so others can get their job done.  Without complaints, minus the whining and the whimpering; this person is the lowest on the totem pole.  Not at all what we imagined when we consider ourselves the head and not the tail.  But because generally we are too selfish to serve, or we serve on our own terms, many of us are actually still the tail.

Question, in your quest for world domination, who have you served?  How have you inconvenienced yourself for the benefit for someone else?  In what way did you put your agenda aside so someone else's could be met?  Have you made yourself available to help...anyone?

Be a king with slave-like dedication.

Peace
